Since 2006, Sonoma Equity Partners has focused on innovative technologies in renewable alternative energy development, net zero energy construction materials and methods, better practices in land management and related disruptive technologies. Sonoma provides project related consultative services and equity investment in new technologies and in projects that produce more than 20 MW of electricity from solar and wind resources.
According to the World Bank, over 1.1 billion people have no access to electricity, and a billion more only have intermittent access. These people rely on costly, outdated technologies that are harmful to their health, and hinder their opportunities for social and economic advancement.
Thanks to the rapid development of small-scale renewable technologies, many millions of people across the world can now generate their own electricity and/or access power off-grid. Solar stands out in particular. The price and accessibility of panels today means this build out can be led by the consumers themselves.
• 2024117 GW of wind energy capacity was installed globally in 2024, a 0.3% increase from 116.6 GW installed in 2023 and marking the third consecutive record year for wind.
• Total capacity for wind energy globally is now over 1,136 GW, an increase of 11% compared to 2023.
• China and the US remain the world’s largest onshore wind markets, with China accounting for 70% of new capacity in 2024 and the two countries together representing over 74% of global new installations.
• Offshore wind added 8 GW in 2024, down from a record 11 GW in 2023 and accounting for 7% of new installations, though the sector saw a breakthrough with 56.3 GW of capacity awarded globally—the highest on record.
• 2025 is expected to be another record year for wind energy, with GWEC forecasting 138 GW of new capacity installed.
